Gorilla Glass

By Saurav Singh,

Gorilla Glass is a special type of toughened glass developed by Corning. This glass is inherited characteristics such as thin, light and damage-resistantance. This sheet glass is used as a cover glass for portable electronic devices including mobile phones, portable media players, portable computer displays and television screens. The strength in this glass comes because it is immersed in a hot potassium salt ion-exchange bath.

Going back in time such glasses were initially developed in 1960.In those days it was called muscled glass. Within years it was started to use widely in fields such as automotive, aviation etc. In the year 2010 only 20 percent smart phones used such glasses.

In the year 2013 third generation of gorilla glass was introduced. It was three times stronger than the second generation. Now we are presently using 4Th generation which has antimicrobial characteristics.
