Modern technology, are we getting codependent ?

by Ziuby

Technology is applied to the roles each individual fulfills during life. We use technology on a daily basis to accomplish specific tasks or interests.

Every one defines technology in their own way. To some people it means complicated electronic devices. To others, it means the source of the radical changes that are happening in all phases of life.
Some people fear to use technology while others see it as the source of longer and more complete lives. So even if using technology has an advantage, it has disadvantages also.

Advantages

Easy Access to information: It has become very easy to get access to relevant information at any time anywhere. This has been possible because of modern technologies like broadband internet. Information is power, and those who find information and use it well always succeed.

Encourages innovation and creativity: In the past, it used to be very difficult to start a business, one had to have lots of capital and they even had limited access to business information. Today, it is very easy to start a business while at home.

Improved communication:  Communication is like water to life.Modern technology has blessed us with advanced communication technology tools. These can include e-fax machines, electronic mail, mobile phones, video conferencing, instant text messaging applications, etc.

Social Networking:   Modern technology has made it simple to discover our old friends and also discover new people to network with. This is a benefit to both individuals and businesses. Many businesses have embraced the social networking technology to interact with their customers.

Disadvantages

Increased loneliness: Technology has replaced our old way of interacting. If a user can easily interact with 100 friends online, they will feel no need to going out to make real friends which at a later stage leads to loneliness.

Job Loss: Modern technology has replaced many humans; robots are doing of the jobs which used to be done by humans. Many packing firms have employed robots on production lines to increase on production and efficiency

Competency - Increased dependency on modern tools like calculators has reduced on our creativity. You can find a student when they can solve a very simple mathematical equation without using a calculator. This affects the way this student uses their brains and reduces on the level of creativity.

During the passion of finding new ways to implement technology and explore new avenues somewhere we must also keep in mind whether the intended action has its desired cause. In light of discovery one can easily get focused on what he has to do rather that thinking also that should it be done. Technology should always be responsibly used . We cannot forget that technological inventions are meant to ease our day to day activities and not control them.

"Qwant an Alternative Google"

by Ziuby

A company from a small office near the banks of the river Seine has put on gloves and will try to take on Google. The product is a French search engine called #Qwant. The French start-up, whose product was released 18 months ago, is tapping into growing anger here that Google has too much control over how Europeans surf the web.

“There’s a need for a choice,” Jean Manuel Rozan, a former financier who co-founded #Qwant in 2011, said recently over a cup of coffee. Europe is the only place in the world where people think that Google is the Internet. To stand out from the crowd, Qwant sold a 20 percent stake to Axel Springer, the German publisher, this year for roughly $6 million, mostly to buy European servers.

Along with other Google alternatives like #DuckDuckGo and #Ixquick, a Dutch search engine, Qwant says it does not track people’s online movements and sells advertising based only on individuals’ search queries.
Qwant also plans to release a child-friendly search engine — Qwant Junior — in early 2015.

If you have three million children who will search on Qwant, then there’ll be six million parents who will know about Qwant, said Éric Leandri, another of the start-up’s co-founders, who added that the start-up was in discussions with Axel Springer to become the default search engine on some of the publisher’s websites.

Despite previous failures to a build a credible European search engine, Qwant’s co-founders hope its focus on privacy and attempts to combine social media posts and traditional search results will set it apart from Google, whose projects are as diverse as a smartphone operating system and trying to develop driverless cars.

We want to give results from both the web and social networks,” said Mr. Rozan of Qwant. “If we’re just going to offer the same service as Google, we should stop now.

A look into Green Computing for #2015 : From Current to Future Trends

 by Ziuby

The term ‘Green Computing’ is the study and practices that covers the computing lifecycle from cradle to grave. It start from design to manufacturing to use of equipment and then safely disposing-off computers, related devices, networking and communications equipment’s efficiently and effectively with negligible or no impact on the environment.

Current trends of #GreenComputing are towards efficient utilization of resources. Energy is considered as the main resource and the carbon footprints are considered the major threads to environment.

There are several areas where researchers are putting lots of efforts to achieve desired

1. Energy Consumption
2. E-waste Recycling.
3. Data Center Consolidation & Optimization
4. Virtualization
5. IT Products and Eco labeling

The reason to focus and analyze Future Trends is because of growth in computing needs, energy cost and global warming and this shift is great challenge for IT industry. The future of Green Computing in #2015 is going to be based on efficiency, rather than reduction in consumption. The primarily focus of Green IT is in the organization’s self interest in energy cost reduction, at #DataCenter and at desktops, and the result of which is the corresponding reduction in carbon generation. The secondary focus of Green IT needs to focus beyond energy use in the Data Center and #CloudComputing the focus should be on innovation and improving alignment with overall corporate social responsibility efforts.

There are few efforts, which all enterprises are supposed to take care of

1. Certifications
2. Cloud Computing
3. Product Longevity
4. Power Management Tools
5. Leveraging Unused Computer Resource
6. Data Compression
7. Applications

Technology is not a passive observer, but it is an active contributor in achieving the goals of Green Computing. One must make conscious efforts to make the world a better place, in this case the digital world too. IT industry in #India have started to take interest in the ways
